  Venezia- 1 day trip

 

  Start the day at Piazzala Rome- Park the vehicle and walk- It's not  possibile to enter the city with the vehicle.

 

  Go to the Jewish ghetto-

  * It's possible to take a taxi-boat and get off in station number 4 next to Mercuola church and to turn to Via Rio

  Terra S. Leonardo. Walk until you arrive to Ponte Guglie bridge.

 

  * Or to go through the railway station and walk in Via Lista di Spagna until Piazza Campo Geremia. Continue in

  Via Salizzada S. Geremia until Ponte Guglie bridge. Turn left and after about 100m' turn to the right, walk until the alleyway that leads to the ghetto. In the ghetto you pass next to houses with inscriptions in Hebrew.

At Piazza Campiello della Scuola situated the Levantine synagogue for the Turkey and Greece Jewish.  

In Campo del Ghetto Nuovo situated the Spanish synagogue Sinagoghe Spagnole.  

Additional synagogue in the ghetto is the German synagogue Scuola Grande Tedesca in 

which situated the Jewish museum Museo Ebraico.

          October 1st-May 31st           10.00- 18.00.

  After touring the ghetto go toward Ponte di Rialto bridge.

  * One possibility- Go in Via Rio Tera San Leonardo until Via Calle dell Magazen. Turn right and go until Via Calle

  dell Cristo. Turn left and continue straight in Via Calle dell Cristo until you arrive at the dock. In the dock get on

  a boat until Ponte di Rialto bridge

  * Second possibility- Go like in the first possibility until the dock and continue walking along the Grand Canal.

  On the way pass next to Ca' Pesaro a baroque palace from the 17th century that hosts the modern art museum

  Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna. In the museum are exhibited creations of Matisse, Kandinsky, Chagall

  and more.

  Arriving to Ponte di Rialto bridge. The bridge was built in the 16th century. The present bridge is the sixth version,

but the first which is built of stone. The previous bridges were built of wood. On the bridge there is a wonderful view of the city and the canal in which sail gondolas. Before the bridge there is a market in which it's possible to buy souvenirs, hats, shoes etc.

 

 

 

 

  After you pass the bridge follow the signs that show the direction to Piazza San Marco.

 

  Piazza San Marco- The square is surrounded by the Basilica, Palazzo Ducale, Museo Civico Correr, the antique

library and more. In the square plenty of pigeons that the tourists feed with seeds which it's possible to buy in the nearest kiosk.  

Basilica San Marco- Was built in the 11th century, and a lot of changes were made in it during the years. The bones of st. Marcus were brought to the church after the finishing of it's building and they are buried under the main altar. The Basilica has five domes while one in the middle and four surround it.

In the facade there are 5 big entrance gates that on them there are marble boards in different colors and sculptures. The different decorations describe different

events and figures from the history.

  The interior of the Basilica is decorated with mosaics that describe events from the new testament.

  In the Basilica 6 big marble columns and a gold decoration to the amazing altar Pala d'Oro. From the south width

  hall it's possible to enter to the treasure Tesoro- an amazing collection of ritual objects and decorations that were

  brought from the occupied Constantinopole.

  Galleria della Basilica- From there is a better view of the domes, the arcs, the mosaics etc. In the museum

  creations of mosaic, antiquities and the famous sculpture of the chariot with the 4 horses that it's copy situated  in

  the entrance.

  The Campanile- This is a reconstruction of the tower that was built in the 15th century and collapsed 1902. It's 

  height is 99m'. The scenery from the tower is spectacular.

  In the square situated the main entrance to the

  Palazzo Ducale- The first time it was built in the 9th century, was burned in the 12th century and was built newly

during 10 years. Later were added new parts to the palace. In the different periods used as the house of the Duces Doges (the supreme judges), residence of the governor, seat of the government, the courts and prison.  

The facades of the palace are decorated with white and pink marble. At the corners of the palace stand sculptures. The tour in the palace includes the inner yard, the halls and the rooms. The palace is big and the tour can take more then two hours.

Hours:  November 1st-March 31st    9.00-17.00.  Entrance by payment.              

            April 1st-October 31st         9.00-19.00 .

Tickets are sold until 1 hour before closing.

 

  Behind the palace situated the moans bridge Ponte dei Sospiri- the bridge that connect between Plazzo Ducale

  to the new prison. Was built in the 16th-17th centuries.

 

  Go toward the water canal and at San Zaccaria dock get on a water-bus vaporetto number 52 and sail to

  Murano Island- in the Island manufacture the known glass "Murano". Get off the boat at Piazza Alla Colonna. Turn 

right and then left and arrive to the main street of the Island. In the street situated a lot of glass products shops.

Walk according to the signs to the glass museum Museo d'arte Vetraria that situated at Fondamenta Giustinian 8.

In the museum a spectacular collection of glass tools from the Roman period until today.   

Hours:  April 1st-October 31st           Thursday-Tuesday  10.00-18.00

            November 1st-March 31st     Thursday-Tuesday  10.00-17.00

            Tickets are sold until 1 hour before closing.

                                                           Wednesday closed.     

 

  If time remains it's possible to go to Basilica dei Santi Maria e Donato- was built the 7th century and was renovated

  in the 12th century. The mosaic in the dome is an art creation in a Byzantine style. Situated in Fondamenta

  Giustinian.
