  Piazza Bra is the biggest square. In the middle of the square there are- a fountain surrounded by trees,

grass and cafes.

Near it situated the amphitheater-Arena one of the biggest in the Roman

world which was built in the 1st century.  

Contains 25,000 seats in 44 oval lines. The seats remained like they used

to be-  stone seats. Part of the arena is covered with woodsurface on which

iron chairs, and they are the expensive seats.

In the summer takes place here a festival of opera shows.

It's possible to visit in the Arena.

 

  Hours: September-June  Tuesday-Sunday  9.00-18.00. July-August  8.00-15.30.

 

  From Piazza Bra exit to Via Mazzini- An ancient pedestrian street filled with stores and boutiques.   

  At the end of the pedestrian street situated Via Cappello. Turn right and in no. 23 situated                            

  Casa di Giulietta- This is small Gothic style palace that used to belong to the family of Capuleti.  

In the inner yard situated the famous balcony from which Giulietta looked on Romeo,

and under it, in the yard stands a sculpture of Giulietta. One wall of the house is loaded

with graffiti that are and were written by visitors in the place.  

It's possible to enter to the house and to stand on the balcony.

Hours: Tuesday-Sunday 8.30-19.30.

           Monday 13.30-19.30.

 

 

 

  Go back in Via Cappello, pass the pedestrian street Via Mazzini and arrive to  

  Piazza delle Erbe- the "herbs square". This is an oblong square only for pedestrians, that in the past was

a Roman forum.  

In the square stand the market column, the Capitello stage that upon it were declared

the governors edicts and verdicts, the fountain of Madonna- Verona Madonna, venetian

column whereon the winged lion of st. Mark. Around the square situated ancient palaces

and houses, such as the baroque Palazzo Maffei.  

In the square there are a lot of cafes and bars. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Next to this square situated additional square Piazza dei Signori- An aristocratic square. 

  At the center of the square stands a sculpture of Dante and it's surrounded by palaces. In one side situated the

  town hall- Palazzo del Comune that was built in the 12th century, and the tower- Torre dei Lamberti which is 83 m'

  height, stands above it. It's possible to get on the tower by foot or by an elevator, and to view the wonderful view

  of Verona.

  Hours: Monday- Saturday 9.00-18.00.

  The palace is connected by arc to Palazzo dei Tribunali- The court of justice palace. In the other edge situated

  the governor palace-Palazzo del Governo that was built in the 13th century. Near by situated the mausoleum of

  Scaligeri family Arche Scaligere. The graves are sumptuous and engraved, and on them there are the family  

  symbolic. The graves are built of marble and surrounded by iron banisters and lattices. In the niches stand

  sculptures of holies.

 

  From the square exit in Corso Sant'Anastasia and walk until you turn left at Via Duomo. Walk until you arrive

  to the Duomo.  

It's a renaissance style cathedral that was built in the 12th century. The entrance gate is sumptuous, and the tower is classic. The central hall is a Gothic style and in it there are pink, very beautiful columns.

In the altar there is a paint of Titian that describes the going up to the sky of Jesus.

Hours: March-October         Monday- Saturday  9.30-18.00,  Sunday 13.00-18.00.

             November-February   Monday- Saturday 10.00-16.00, Sunday 13.30-16.00.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  Go toward the river and cross Ponte Pietra bridge and arrive to the Roman theater- Teatro Romano. The theater was

  built during Augustus days and was renovated since then. There are still theater, ballet, and concert performances

  in the place.

  Hours: Tuesday-Sunday  8:30-18:45, Monday 13.30-18.45. During theater season 9.00-15.00.

 

  From Via Regste Redentore, that on the river, go up on steps that lead to the fortress San Pietro. From the

  fortress, which was built during the days of the Visconti family's authority, appears a wonderful view of the city.

 

  Return and cross the bridge, turn left and go until Corso Sant'Anastasia, turn to it and go straight. The street

  changes to Corso Porta Borsari and afterwards to Corso Cavour, until arriving to Castlevecchio fortress. Was built

  in the 14th century. It is divided to 2, and between the 2 parts connects a passage that on it situated a guarding

  tower.

  In the fortress there is an art museum today. Exhibited in it the development of the art in Verona in the 12th-16th

  centuries. Also frescoes and paintings of painters like Pisanello, Bellini, and more.

  Hours: Tuesday-Sunday   9.00-19.00. Monday closed. Tickets are sold until 18.00.

  Go back to Piazza Bra through the pedestrian street Via Roma.
